About Active Pursuit Physical Therapy

Active Pursuit Physical Therapy was created to provide a different experience from traditional physical therapy clinics. The practice is built around one-on-one care, thoughtful movement assessment, targeted manual therapy, and a performance-based approach designed to help people stay active, confident, and capable in their bodies.

Many people seek physical therapy because pain, injury, or physical limitations are preventing them from doing the activities they enjoy. At Active Pursuit Physical Therapy, care is focused not only on resolving symptoms, but on addressing the underlying movement, strength, and capacity deficits that influence long-term health and performance.

About Matt Mahoney

Dr. Matt is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist with a background in sports and golf, and his approach to care is shaped by both professional experience and firsthand understanding of injury. Prior to becoming a physical therapist, Matt was a member of the PGA of America as a golf professional. A shoulder injury that sidelined him from playing ultimately led him to the field of physical therapy.

This experience influences how Matt works with clients today. He understands the frustration of being limited by pain or injury and the importance of having a clear, structured plan to return to activity safely and confidently.

Additionally, Matt stays involved with his Alma Mater as a teaching assistant in the physical therapy program at Stony Brook University, assisting with Kinesiology, Orthopedics, and Advanced Therapeutic Exercise classes.

A Performance-Focused Approach to Physical Therapy

Matt specializes in sports and performance-based physical therapy for active adults, athletes, and golfers. Care emphasizes movement quality, strength development, and progressive return to activity rather than passive treatments or generic exercise programs.

Sessions are one-on-one and intentionally unrushed, allowing time to assess how a person moves, identify relevant limitations, and build a plan that supports both recovery and long-term performance.

• One-on-one sessions with a Doctor of Physical Therapy

• Sports and golf-specific rehabilitation

• Strength and movement-focused care

• Clear progression back to training and activity
